Tottenham news: Pedro Porro breaks silence on deadline day transfer as James Maddison sends hint

Your Tottenham morning digest on Wednesday, February 1.

Pedro Porro shirt number confirmed as £39.5m transfer announced

Pedro Porro will wear the No.23 at Tottenham after signing a five-and-a-half-year contract to join Spurs on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.

The Lilywhites have an obligation to buy him as part of the agreement in a deal worth €45million (£39.5million) after a deal looked to have fallen through over the weekend. As football.london reported ahead of the January transfer window, Spurs were targeting a new attacker and right wing-back and the arrival of Porro completes their winter window priorities.

Arnaut Danjuma joined the club from Villarreal on loan after Spurs hijacked his move to Everton. The Spanish defender was Antonio Conte's priority as a new right wing-back and after weeks of negotiations, where Spurs were initially reluctant to pay the full release clause, a deal has been agreed.

Pedro Porro breaks silence

After consistent back-and-forth with Pedro Porro the Spanish fullback has come out and spoken regarding the late U-turn from Sporting Lisbon ahead of his eventual transfer to Tottenham.

Porro opened up on his Tottenham transfer and why he didn't train when speaking to reporters at Lisbon Airport on Monday evening.

"I’m grateful to Sporting, I love the club," he told CMTV. "I didn’t train as I was only focused on the transfer to Spurs but I will always be thankful to the club."

Porro became Antonio Conte's second winter signing after the loan of Arnaut Danjuma.

James Maddison hint

Having been interested in James Maddison in the summer and also late on in the January window James Maddison briefly excited Tottenham fans.

In what Spurs supporters took as a potential hint, Maddison changed his profile picture on Instagram from Jamie Vardy, the Leicester owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha and the FA Cup (in a Leicester kit) to him in an England kit.

The timing of the change may come as a hint surrounding his time at Leicester and what could come as Manchester City have also been linked with the attacking midfielder.
