Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is still keen to bring in Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres despite the club inching towards the loan signing of Barcelona's Clement Lenglet.
The Spurs coach made it one of his top priorities this summer to bring in a left-footed centre-back and that should happen this week with Lenglet set to join the club on loan. But that will not end the club's interest in Torres and they could still make a move for the highly-rated defender.
It comes as Spurs weigh up a £30million bid for Barcelona forward Memphis Depay. And the Tottenham Hotspur players have returned to the club's Hotspur Way training complex for the first day of pre-season.
Have your say! Who do you think Tottenham Hotspur should target in the transfer market this summer? Let us know what you think in the comments below
Torres targeted
Antonio Conte remains interested in Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres despite Spurs being about to fulfil his request of signing a left-footed centre-back this summer.
Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is due to move to the Premier League outfit on loan, but it appears Conte wants two players capable of playing the position. Torres has reportedly risen to the top of Tottenham's defensive shopping list after missing out on primary target Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan.
While Manchester United are also keen on Torres, they appear to be prioritising a move for Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez. And Spurs could offer Giovani Lo Celso, who impressed while on loan at Villarreal last season, as part of their move.
Spurs consider £30m Depay bid
Spurs could target Barcelona forward in a £30million move, according to reports.
The Dutchman has entered the final year of his contract at Camp Nou and the Spanish outfit's precarious financial situation means they may look to cahs in on him this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing in a year's time. And with Steven Bergwijn set to seal his own £30million move to Ajax, Spurs boss Antonio Conte wants the money invested back into his playing squad for a direct replacement.
And according to reports coming out of Spain, Depay has been mentioned during negotiations for Clement Lenglet who is due to move to the north London club this week on loan.
Pre-season begins
Tottenham Hotspur players have reported to the club's Hotspur Way training complex for the first day of pre-season.
Fitness tests and training took place ahead of the club's players and staff flying out to Korea for their first summer friendlies on Saturday. According to football.london, there were a number of new faces following the club's busy transfer window so far with Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Fraser Forster were all present, while Pape Matar Sarr also trained with the club for the first time following his move and loan back to Metz last summer.
A number of stars returned early despite being granted extra time off due to international fixtures during the summer, while those players who have been told they can leave the club also reported for duty. Although one player will not join up with the squad until they arrive in South Korea.
