Tottenham news: Man United's Harry Kane transfer problem as Rio Ferdinand prediction made

Your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Wednesday, March 15.

Kane future

Another summer full of speculation over Harry Kane's future looks set to play out unless Tottenham can tie their record goalscorer down to a fresh deal.

Kane, who turns 30 in July, faces a huge decision over the next step of his career with what may be the final big pay day of his playing days. His current contract runs out in the summer of 2024, meaning Spurs have reached a situation where their best player - and their all-time record goalscorer - now has just over 15 months left on his deal.

football.london understands that while Tottenham's managing director of football Fabio Paratici has spoken to Kane's camp on a couple of occasions regarding plans to sit down to discuss a new deal in the near future, the club have as of yet not entered into any formal discussions over a new contract for the England captain.

Regarding a move away from Tottenham, it's difficult to see Spurs chairman Daniel Levy accepting any bids from English clubs for Kane this summer, unless someone makes the most eye-watering of bids for a then 30-year-old in the final year of his contract.

Academy latest

Troy Parrott is unsure whether he has a future at Tottenham but teenage striker Jamie Donley is set to sign a new long-term deal with the club, football.london understands.

Spurs have a number of young forwards on their books at the moment, with Parrott and Dane Scarlett out on loan at Preston and Portsmouth respectively. Then there is 18-year-old striker Donley, who has 11 goal involvements in 27 matches (five goals and six assists) this season despite having to show his versatility with plenty of appearances in midfield to help cover injuries.

Spurs have high hopes for Donley and football.london understands that the youngster is set to seal a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the club. The new contract for the teenager, who has played international youth football for both England and Northern Ireland, will also contain an option for a further year.

Rio Ferdinand prediction

Rio Ferdinand believes Harry Kane will leave Tottenham in the summer in a bid to win trophies before he retires.

"Man United are going for Harry Kane. Harry Kane isn’t going to Chelsea from Spurs, no chance," the former United defender told Five.

"If you play football as a young kid, what is your goal? To win trophies. He is at Spurs, who want to win trophies. They can’t, they don’t. Since the Champions League final, they have gone backwards in terms of the way they are playing and closeness to winning things."
