Tottenham news: Harry Kane faces criticism as Antonio Conte teases formation change

Your Tottenham morning digest on Tuesday, October 4.

Kane faces criticism after North London Derby

Despite finding the back of the net in the North London Derby on Saturday, Harry Kane has faced criticism for not regularly coming up with the goods in big games. Despite scoring from the penalty spot, Kane was kept quiet in open play by the Arsenal defence, as Spurs fell to a 3-1 defeat.

The Tottenham captain has scored 14 goals in 18 appearances against the Gunners, but Jermaine Jenas wants to see more from him in 'big games'. “I need to see more from him,” former Spurs midfielder Jenas told FIVE.

“My biggest issue with Harry Kane is – and he is going to be a God at Spurs whenever he decides to retire and he will go down as one of the greatest players in Premier League history – finals and big games, I think, are a problem when it comes to what he has done in those moments.”

Conte hints at formation change

Antonio Conte has suggested that he could switch from his preferred 3-4-3 system to a 3-5-2 formation following Tottenham's defeat at Arsenal on Saturday. Spurs have exclusively played 3-4-3 this season, with two wingers flanking Harry Kane in a three-man attack.

However, ahead of Tottenham's Champions League clash at Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday evening, Conte has hinted that he may switch to a two-striker formation. With no out-and-out number nine in the squad to partner Kane, a formation switch would see either Richarlison or Son Heung-min line up alongside the Spurs captain.

Spurs take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday evening in the European competition and many of the club's fans have been arriving in the German city since Sunday, with 2,500 in all expected to make the trip. However, after previous incidents in the district on the south side of the River Main, opposite to the side containing the central tourist areas of the city, Tottenham have warned their travelling fans against heading to Sachsenhausen and also warned against wearing club colours in the city.
