Tottenham news: Fabio Paratici eyes 'next Kylian Mbappe' as Spurs chief set for Arsenal role

Your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Monday, January 30.

Spurs eye wonderkid

Tottenham are one of a number of clubs keeping tabs on French youngster Elye Wahi, reports Daily Express. Arsenal are also said to be keen on the 20-year-old, who has impressed for Montpellier in Ligue 1 this season.

In 18 appearances this campaign he has scored seven goals and assisted one. The youngster achieved a hugely impressive feat earlier this season by notching his 20th Ligue 1 goal before his 20th birthday.

Only Kylian Mbappe has managed to hit that milestone while still a teenager in the last 40 years.

Recruitment chief set for Arsenal role

Tottenham's emerging talent manager Chris Perkins is set to make the switch to local rivals Arsenal, football.london understands.

football.london revealed on Saturday that Perkins had left Spurs last month after the club's structure continued to change around him and now with a number of clubs chasing his services, including his former side Everton, he seems set to take up a similar talent spotting role at Arsenal.

Perkins made a name for himself during five years as head of academy recruitment at Derby, with a high percentage of first team players coming through the club's youth set-up, before he made the move to Everton in 2020. Just a year later and after beginning an appraisal of Tottenham's scouting network for first team and academy players, the club's managing director of football Fabio Paratici and then technical performance director Steve Hitchen brought in Perkins to identify the best young talent from the 17 to 21 age bracket to bring into the club's academy.

Fixtures compared

Next up for Spurs is a clash with Manchester City as they host the English champions in the second clash in a few weeks between the two sides. The reverse fixture had plenty of positives for Antonio Conte as his side raced into a two-goal lead at the halfway mark, but a disappointing collapse in the second half saw them lose 4-2.

Following that is a trip to the Midlands to face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, before the Champions League returns as Spurs join the round of 16 with a trip to Italy against giants AC Milan in the first leg.
