Tottenham news: Antonio Conte sends warning to players as Spurs face Harry Kane transfer worry

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Wednesday, September 14.

Antonio Conte sends Champions League warning to stars

Spurs fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Sporting in the Champions League, with Antonio Conte's side now trailing the Portuguese team by three points in the group and fixtures against last season's Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt on the horizon.

Conte took the opportunity after the game to remind his players about the level of the competition they will face this season.

"The level of the Champions League is high," Conte told reporters. "It's very high. you know that to play in this competition you have to reduce the mistakes, because at the end you can pay. Tonight we paid a lot and now we are talking about a loss against a team that showed to be used to playing in this competition.

"It's a pity. For sure we have to analyse very well the game, also the players, it's right but they know very well that this level is a very important level and to play this competition you have to continue to improve.

"You have to continue to improve yourself but this is normal. It's right to continue to improve this process with the players. Don't forget that last season in November we lost to Mura in the Conference League in Slovenia. I think that we then made an important step forward, because tonight in my opinion it was more fair a draw than a defeat honestly."

Key rule change set to affect Tottenham amid growing fixture congestion

Tottenham could be impacted by an important rule change made to combat fixture congestion this season.

There are now discussions being had, according to MailSport, to scrap FA Cup third and fourth round replays in a bid to free up some room in the footballing calendar. With no free time until the weekend of January 17 for Premier League matches from last weekend to be rescheduled, let alone the three matches from the upcoming weekend also to be fitted in, FA Cup replays are seen as an expendable part of the calendar.
