Tottenham news: Antonio Conte on Harry Kane fatigue as Rafael Leao transfer chance appears

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Thursday, November 10.

Antonio Conte on Harry Kane fatigue

Spurs were defeated 2-0 by Nottingham Forest as they exited the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. It was a sobering experience for fans who made the journey to the City Ground - and they saw the unusual sight of Harry Kane being substituted after just an hour, two minutes after the hosts had gone into a 2-0 lead.

Conte was asked after the game about the performance, and revealed that Kane had been struggling with fatigue in the build up to the game after an accumulation of so many fixtures in such a short period of time - all of which he has started.

"They are really tired," Conte told reporters. "I tried to manage the situation, for example in midfield with Hojbjerg in the first half and Bentancur in the second half because they were really tired with the risk of injuries. The same with Harry Kane and with Harry, until this morning we waited to see if he could start or not. But in this situation he was the only striker for us. For this reason I can only say thanks for the availability they show me.

"In our hearts and minds was the desire to go ahead in this competition. But the difference was the energy. It was really different between us and Nottingham Forest.

"Other players maybe they could tell me, ‘I’m tired and don’t want to play and help the team’. When I speak, I have a group of players who are men and then good players, and because of this. Another could be selfish and think for himself because in one week they have to play the World Cup. Instead, Harry Kane showed to be a really good man."

Son World Cup decision

Spurs star and South Korea captain Son Heung-min has confirmed that he will be going to the World Cup in Qatar despite recently undergoing eye surgery.

In a heartfelt message on his Instagram account, he said: "Hi everyone. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you all for the messages of support I have received over the last week.

"I have read so many of them and truly, truly appreciate you all. In a tough time I received a lot of strength from you! Playing for your country at the World Cup is the dream of so many children growing up, just as it was one of mine too. I won’t miss this for the world. I can’t wait to represent our beautiful country, see you soon. Sonny."
