Tottenham news: Antonio Conte given warning as Mauricio Pochettino reveals Premier League plan

Your morning Tottenham Hotspur digest on Friday, December 2.

Pochettino drops return hint

Mauricio Pochettino admitted that a Premier League return could be on the cards as Tottenham continue to sweat over Antonio Conte's contract.

The Italian's current deal expires in the summer, and although both the club and Conte remain calm, it is a pressing issue that comes with a jam-packed domestic schedule after the World Cup.

Pochettino, who was sacked three years ago and hasn't entered management since leaving Paris Saint Germain earlier this year, has added to the uncertainty though. The Argentine said: "I miss the Premier League."

Speaking to talkSPORT, he also added: "Why not (return to manage in England)? We are open. I love England, I love living in London and Barcelona. And of course if that possibility (to return) appears for sure we will consider taking it."

Conte set for training boost

Spurs could go into the second part of their midseason training camp stronger than expected as the World Cup group stage culminates this week.

Tottenham still have Son Heung-min and Rodrigo Bentancur to fight it out for their places in the last-16, whilst Ben Davies has already exited the tournament following Wales' heavy defeat at the hands of England.

Emerson Royal, Clement Lenglet and Dejan Kulusevski are just some of the players that returned to training at Hotspur Way earlier this week, and that is set to increase in the coming days as Conte sets about preparing his squad for their Boxing Day fixture against Brentford.

Spence danger

Djed Spence is in danger of having his confidence knocked, says former Spurs defender Alan Hutton.

The right-sided defender has failed to make much of an impact after his summer move from Middlesbrough, and the youngster caught the eye of Conte enough to earn consistent minutes, something that could damage him in the long-term, Hutton said.

“It can affect somebody’s confidence and that can put you on a downward spiral which is not ideal for anyone,” he explained.

“I think he is a fantastic player, I think he has a lot to give now. I saw a little glimpse of him against Nottingham Forest and he was running, trying to make things happen. The enthusiasm is there. When you look at Antonio Conte’s options, (Matt) Doherty and Emerson Royal, I do not think they have been setting the heather alight. So I do not understand why he is not getting a bigger opportunity."
