Tottenham news: Ange Postecoglou plots sensational Chelsea raid as Son Heung-min breaks silence

Your morning Tottenham Hotspur digest on Thursday, June 15.

Son addresses injury woes

Son Heung-min has revealed that he "struggled with pain all season" which eventually led to him getting surgery on a sports hernia injury after Tottenham's final match of the campaign. Going into the 2022/23 season on the back of winning the Premier League Golden Boot, the South Korean international really struggled for form in the opening weeks and it wasn't until their seventh league game when he finally netted for the first time.

"I wondered a lot if I should even make this public, but I struggled with pain all season. I played through it for eight to nine months, but couldn’t go on anymore, so I made the decision finally and underwent surgery," Son said during an interview with TV Chosun, as quoted by Korean football writer Steve Han.

"Even for simple actions like passing or turning, every movement starts from your core muscles, but that’s exactly where my pain was. I was only able to do 60 per cent of what could do at 100 per cent [throughout the season]."

Spurs eye Chelsea star

One name that has not been mentioned as Tottenham target until now, is Conor Gallagher. The 23-year-old midfielder, who enjoyed a fine loan spell with Crystal Palace in 2021/22, scoring eight goals, ended last year well under Frank Lampard at Chelsea, starting eight of the last nine Premier League games, scoring twice.

football.london reported that Gallagher is expected to depart Stamford Bridge this summer and has been linked with a move to Newcastle, who qualified for the Champions League this season. The Magpies are looking at other options, however and it's understood that Spurs also hold an interest in the Englishman.

Postecoglou held talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy last week after taking a break from his holiday to report into Hotspur Way, with transfer priorities discussed during a recruitment meeting. Gallagher is one of a number of names on the list of potential targets.

Postecoglou claim

New Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that the only person who can get away with criticising him is his wife.

In an interview filmed this month on YouTube for Open Goal, while giving an insight into his home life and how he just lets his sons enjoy their youth football without his interference, the then Celtic boss admitted that his wife Georgia is the one who rules the roost and will even lay into him about his own football decisions.

"I feel sorry for [the boys] at the moment because I've hardly been to any of their games and with training I just tend to drop them off," he said. "I just want them to love the game like I did. They don't need me by the side because invariably people want to talk to me, asking 'which one's your boy'."
