Tottenham news: Ange Postecoglou eyes Tapsoba alternative as £50m added to transfer budget

Your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines on Sunday, June 25.

Postecoglou eyes new transfer target

Ange Postecoglou has put a new centre-back option on his transfer wish list alongside Bayer Leverkusen Edmond Tapsoba.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven has his admirers at Hotspur Way with initial talks already having taken place.

Following his breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, Liverpool have also registered an interest with the German club set to demand €30 million (£26million) to sanction an exit.

£50m offered to Tottenham by ENIC

Tottenham's majority owners ENIC International Limited made £150million available in transfer funds to the club last summer.

While most was spent, the commitment is said to remain for the remaining £50m despite claims it had to be drawn out by the end of 2022.

Those funds are therefore available to use and there's nothing on Companies House at this moment to suggest it has been drawn out.

Postecoglou's Son problem

Ange Postecoglou is going to have quite the predicament on his hands at the beginning of 2024 with the 2023 AFC Asian Cup getting underway.

Following South Korea's qualification for the tournament in Qatar, Tottenham will face the prospect of losing Son Heung-min for around a month, especially if his national team go all the way to the final.

Initially pencilled in to be held in China this summer, in May 2022 it was announced that they would not host the tournament due to the Covid-19 situation in the country.

Following confirmation in October that the tournament would instead be played in Qatar, dates for the 24-team competition were revealed in early April, with the Asian Cup now commencing on Friday, January 12 and drawing to a conclusion on Saturday, February 10.
