Tottenham manager news: ‘Unbelievable’ Brendan Rodgers backed to ‘work’ at Spurs after Leicester exit

Tottenham started the mini-Cristian Stellini era with a disappointing draw at Everton on Monday.

Spurs now face a fight to get over the line in the Champions League race, sitting above fifth-placed Manchester United on only goal difference having played two more games.

In the wake of Antonio Conte’s departure, chairman Daniel Levy called for everyone involved with the club to focus on their remaining Premier League games.

Still, it’s hard to ignore the uncertainty that currently shrouds Spurs.

Julian Nagelsmann was thought to have been a frontrunner for the job but has since been contacted by Chelsea following the sacking of Graham Potter.

Standard Sport understands Mauricio Pochettino is yet to have been contacted about the idea of a potential return, while Brentford manager Thomas Frank has played down the links.

Brendan Rodgers has previously been of interest to Spurs and is now a free agent after leaving Leicester on Sunday.

Now, the former Liverpool coach has been backed by a Premier League player.

Speaking to The Footballer’s Football Podcast, West Ham forward Michail Antonio said: “I think that would be unbelievable.

“Spurs like to play football, they like to play tight-knit football. They’ve got Harry Kane who drops in, they’ve got Son [Heung-min] to hit edges. I swear to you, it would work. It would definitely work.”
