Tottenham manager news: Ryan Mason addresses Xabi Alonso rumours

Ryan Mason insists Tottenham are focusing on finishing the season as strong as possible despite the club’s ongoing managerial search.

Standard Sport understands chairman Daniel Levy is now ready to conduct interviews with potential candidates after completing the due diligence stage of the process.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso and Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim are two of the latest options to have emerged, while Arne Slot, Vincent Kompany and Roberto De Zerbi of Feyenoord, Burnley and Brighton respectively are all under consideration.

The out-of-work Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have also been approached as Spurs cast a wide net for what is an absolutely crucial appointment.

Supporters have protested against Levy and the club’s ENIC ownership after a turbulent season and midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has admitted such instability has not helped the team of late.

Still, Mason stressed the focus remains on trying to push for European qualification during the final few games of the campaign.

“Naturally, when there is uncertainty, there are going to be names [mentioned],” he said.

“That is part of football. But none of my energy or attention is going into outside noise or speculation.

“Within these walls we are together, we are working together and we have got a common goal, which is trying to get as many results as possible until the end of the season.

“I am sure in the summer things will happen, but at the moment that is pretty irrelevant.”
