Tottenham manager news: Harry Redknapp tipped to replace Cristian Stellini as Ally McCoist laments ‘farce’

Harry Redknapp could be the man to steady the ship at Tottenham after the debacle at Newcastle, according to Ally McCoist.

The pundit admitted that it would be “crazy” for Spurs to install another caretaker manager having placed Cristian Stellini in charge as Antonio Conte’s interim replacement.

Yet, the situation at the club following the 6-1 hammering on Tyneside means something must be done in McCoist’s eyes - with former boss Redknapp a solution for the final seven games of the season.

“I always want to give managers the biggest opportunity possible... but come on, something’s got to be done,” he told talkSPORT.

“I know it sounds crazy but if you can’t get the man that you want, you’re going to have get another caretaker. I know it’s not ideal but the whole situation has become farcical.

“I’ve got unbelievable sympathy for the Tottenham supporters, has there ever been a club that underachieves and doesn’t win the things it should?

“I actually think Harry wouldn’t have been a bad idea. Actually a good idea, he knows the club, knows the players.

“They just want a level of consistency and peformance, the top four is away. They aren’t catching [Manchester] United or Newcastle.

“Long-term, I don’t know. Are they going to go for Vincent Kompany, are they going to go for [Mauricio] Pochettino? But something has to be done. That yesterday, five-nothing down after 20 minutes. Dear me.”
