Tottenham manager news: Harry Redknapp casts doubt on Mauricio Pochettino return

Following the departure of Antonio Conte, former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has increasingly been linked with a return.

The Argentine is out of work after leaving Paris Saint-Germain over the course of the summer and has previously expressed an interest in the Spurs job.

Pochettino oversaw a rapid rise at the club between 2014 and 2019, developing a malleable young squad into a team capable of challenging for both the Premier League and the Champions League.

A hugely popular figure amongst swathes of the club’s support, Standard Sport understands the 50-year-old is one of the candidates to replace Conte.

Cristian Stellini will oversee the last ten games of the season and, for that reason, former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has cast doubt on Pochettino’s potential return.

Given the former Southampton coach is not currently working, Redknapp believes the club would have already turned to Pochettino were they that keen on appointing him.

“There are not too many people who could take a job like Tottenham," Redknapp BBC Radio 5 Live. "Pochettino is the one for me and I thought he would go there.

"But they’ve not appointed him yet. Why wouldn’t they take him today? He’s not in work so if they’re thinking of getting him at the end of the season, it’s looking more doubtful."
