New Tottenham stadium update: Mauricio Pochettino reveals move to new ground is 'so close'

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says the club has no plans to remain at Wembley for the entire season and insists they will move into their new stadium as soon as possible.

Spurs have agreed a "contingency" plan to remain at the national stadium for the rest of the campaign if their new home continues to face delays, and they will definitely play their three remaining home games in 2018 at Wembley – starting with Saturday's visit of London rivals Chelsea.

The uncertainty over the move is a source of frustration for supporters and Pochettino cast the club's plans into further doubt on Thursday by suggesting that the stadium may not be ready until February, despite reports that they are targeting Manchester United on January 13 as the opening game.

Pochettino has previously said moving to the stadium will give his side a boost but they have made their best-ever start to a League season and they can leapfrog unbeaten Chelsea with a win this weekend.

Asked if Spurs were tempted to draw a line under the situation by announcing a second full season at Wembley, Pochettino said: "No. That is plan B!

"It is not in our mind. No, I am not worried that moving half-way through the season [damages form].

"When the stadium is ready we are going to move. Unless if the chairman changes the plan! But my idea is to move as soon as possible.

"If we can move tomorrow, then tomorrow. But I know that it is difficult tomorrow. I think we will know better in January or the end of the year in December. I hope if it is not January then it is February.

"I think it is so close. Yesterday I was there and it is so close. The bowl is ready and there are a few things that need to be sorted and hope that the people who need to sign the permission will be nice and [sign] as soon as possible."
