Tottenham make £40m Pedro Porro breakthrough after yielding on Marcus Edwards sell-on clause

Tottenham have agreed a £40million deal to sign Sporting CP defender Pedro Porro.

The 23-year-old will travel to London on transfer deadline day to complete his medical after talks almost collapsed over transaction fees.

Former Spurs player Marcus Edwards was the key to unlocking the stalemate after the north Londoners agreed to waive a portion of the sell-on fee owed to them in the event of Sporting selling their ex-academy winger.

Porro, who missed training on Monday to try to force the move through, is now expected to complete the transfer and should be available to face his former club, Manchester City, on the weekend.

The move will also see former Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin sign for Sporting to replace him in Lisbon.

Meanwhile, right-back Djed Spence will clear space for Porro in the Spurs squad by joining Rennes on a six-month loan, with no option to buy included in the deal.

Bryan Gil is also leaving the club with a loan move back to Sevilla confirmed on Monday evening.
