Tottenham 'keen' to sign £34m ace who gave Arsenal's Takehiro Tomiyasu 'torrid' time this season

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion defender Marc Cucurella this summer if recent reports are to be believed.

Spurs are set for a busy transfer window as Fabio Paratici looks to bolster Antonio Conte 's squad in a bid to keep the veteran coach in N17 and get the club back to challenging for trophies as soon as possible. Conte's side are currently just two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal and if they win all of their remaining fixtures, they will secure a place in next season's UEFA Champions League - something that would make negotiating with potential incomings a lot easier.

And according to Italian outlet, TuttoJuve, the Lillywhites and Serie A giants Juventus will battle it out to sign Brighton wingback Cucurella at the end of the current campaign. The Spanish international has enjoyed an excellent season at the Amex Stadium after signing from Getafe less than 12 months ago, registering 2.14 shot-creating actions, 4.89 progressive passes and 16.85 pressures per 90 minutes, according to fbref.

That kind of form has seen his valuation rise, with CIES Football Observatory currently estimating that he would cost between €30million-€40million (£26million-£34million) if he was to part ways with the Seagulls this summer. If Tottenham did decide to splash the cash on the 23-year-old, they would be getting a player that gave Arsenal right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu a torrid time this season, according to Gunners legend Alan Smith.

Speaking about Cucurella after Arsenal drew 0-0 with Brighton back in October of last year, Smith said: “He was a constant threat up that left-hand side. Tomiyasu will be glad to see the back of him, that first half especially he gave him a torrid time.

“He’s got the energy, he’s got the stamina you need for this league but he’s also got the quality, he’s got the heart as well.”
