Tottenham join £42m Chelsea transfer race as youngster considers future amid Wesley Fofana bid

Tottenham Hotspur are said to have joined the race to sign Trevoh Chalobah, with the defender facing an increasingly uncertain future at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel. The 23-year-old has been thinly linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge this summer but, as the Blues step up their pursuit of Wesley Fofana, an exit seems to be well on the cards.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs are ready to rival Inter Milan and Roma for the Cobham graduate's signature this summer. It's said that Chalobah, who sees his current deal at the club expire in 2026, has concerns over his game time in west London amid fears that signing Fofana will block his pathway.

The report adds that the former England youth international could seek either a loan or permanent move in a bid to recapture the exciting form enjoyed in the early stages of last season. Chalobah, who is valued at around £42.2million by CIES Football Observatory, has started just ten games from a possible 33 under Tuchel in 2022 and, with Fofana edging closer to an exit from Leicester City, that looks to only diminish.

Speaking to the press after the Blues' clash with Leeds United last term, Tuchel discussed Chalobah's game time concerns. The German said: "He can deliver these performances and he played a lot, so there is no reason to be disappointed for him.

"He has an unbelievable amount of matches from the start [of the season] and we know this. It's normal to have a bit of an up and down in terms of positive performance, that is normal."

"It's about consistency," Tuchel added. "He lacked it a little in the last weeks and we did some other choices which is normal. But he needs to stay humble, hard working and he can be a big part of it."

Fofana has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea and football.london understand that the Frenchman feels like the Foxes are trying to price him out of a move by requesting a world-record fee for his services. It's believed that the 21-year-old Frenchman has already agreed personal terms over a move to west London.

But, the Blues have seen two offers – with the highest being around £70million – turned down by Brendan Rodgers' side. Chelsea are expected to submit a third bid in the region of £80million and have growing confidence that it will be accepted by their Premier League rivals.
