Tottenham endured an awful Sunday afternoon on Tyneside as they were beaten 6-1 by Newcastle which saw their hopes of securing Champions League qualification take a significant blow. Not only would Spurs now have to overturn a six-point deficit to both the Magpies and Manchester United, but the setback came about in highly embarrassing fashion.
Within 61 seconds the visitors were behind after Jacob Murphy was the first to react to Joelinton's close-range effort. The Brazilian also got in on the act moments later with Murphy adding his second before the contest had even reached the 10-minute mark.
Alexander Isak then scored twice in the space of two minutes to put Newcastle five in front after 21 minutes. Harry Kane pulled one back for Spurs in the second half, but Callum Wilson added goal number six with still over 20 minutes to play.

No further misery was piled onto Cristian Stellini and his players but the result and performance was a disastrous one that comes just days before another key clash. On Wednesday evening, Spurs welcome Manchester United to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where anything but a victory would likely spell the end of any remaining top-four hope.
The summer is now absolutely huge for the Lilywhites for a number of reasons. A permanent manager still needs to be instilled and the chance of star striker Kane leaving seems to only increase with every passing week and poor display.
