Tottenham identify potential Hugo Lloris successor amid goalkeeper transfer claim

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris endured a miserable weekend, handing local rivals Arsenal a goal during his side's 2-0 loss in the North London Derby on Sunday afternoon.

Lloris parried Bukayo Saka's 14th-minute cross into his own net before Martin Odegaard doubled the Gunners' advantage shortly before half-time. That result leaves Spurs sitting fifth in the current Premier League standings, a whopping 14 points behind Mikel Arteta's side, who have an eight-point gap on second-placed Manchester City at the top of the table.

The Frenchman announced his retirement from international football last week and considering he is now 36-years-old, it seems likely that the Lillywhites will be on the hunt to sign a younger shot-stopper this summer.

Now, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that one 'keeper being monitored by the north London club is Everton and England star Jordan Pickford.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano said: "Tottenham have to decide what their plans are with Lloris because he is not super young. This is why they are exploring options around Europe and Pickford is one of many goalkeepers appreciated."

Pickford is into the final 18 months of his contract with the Toffees, who currently find themselves in the relegation zone after a difficult first half of the season. Everton boss Frank Lampard has remained hopeful that the 28-year-old will pen a new deal soon, claiming that England's No. 1 is happy at Goodison Park.

Speaking about Pickford last year, Lampard said: “We had a great run at the end of last season, everyone knows Jordan was a massive part of that. Jordan feels very happy being at this club. I don’t want to speak for him but that’s the impression I get from him.

"So I don’t think it’s as simple as that. I’d like to think he is very happy here. We are a huge club with a massive history and big ambition.

"Having been a player myself, maybe I was fortunate to play in the Champions League enough, but when I felt comfortable at a club and came in with a smile on my face every day and looked forward to every game - whether it be Premier League, League Cup or Champions League.

"If Jordan feels like that, we can match each other’s ambitions in terms of getting him to stay longer, I don’t see it as a problem.”
