Tottenham Hotspur Stadium breaches licence with extra Beyoncé concert

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has breached its licence after selling tickets to Beyoncé’s fifth and final show in London this summer - the first time many fans will see the pop star perform live in seven years.

The Grammy-award winning singer announced the extra date and is now set to perform at the stadium on May 29, 30 and again on June 1, 3 and 4.

But the stadium currently only has a licence to host six gigs a year.

With the Red Hot Chilli Peppers playing there on July 21 and Wizkid on July 29, the stadium is now selling tickets for a total of seven concerts.

Stadium authorities will need to submit another planning application to Haringey Council to host the final concert on the list - Wizkid.

The council’s cabinet member for planning Dana Carlin said she was “disappointed that we have got to this stage”.

“There is a planning process that needs to be followed,” she said.

“Welcoming global superstars, like Beyoncé, will attract thousands of music fans and benefits our local businesses.

“I want to make it clear that the Beyonce concerts can go ahead, but that and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert will take the number of music concerts per year up to their maximum of six which Tottenham are fully aware of.

“The Wizkid concert in July will now need additional planning permission and it is up to Tottenham to follow the rules and get this in place.

“Tottenham Hotspur have been advised that they must engage with the community, ward councillors and submit a planning application which the council will determine with an open mind. We will continue to advise and work with the club in order to resolve this issue.”

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium declined to comment.

The stadium is reportedly licensed to hold 16 non-football events a year, a maximum of six of which can be musical concerts.

Beyoncé, who recently won four Grammy awards for her seventh studio album Renaissance, has sold out general admission tickets for her five shows in the capital.

Only tickets ranging between £152 and £500 are left to purchase.

The Renaissance world tour, named after her dance/house-sampling album of the same name, is Beyoncé’s first in seven years. Her last was the Formation world tour in 2016.

Renaissance won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. The singer won three other Grammys at the Los Angeles ceremony last month, giving her a record-breaking 32 in total.

Here’s a full list of tour dates.
