Tottenham Hotspur's Pape Matar Sarr stance revealed as Bryan Gil interest is reaffirmed

Tottenham Hotspur "do not seem open" to letting Pape Matar Sarr depart north London during the January transfer window, according to Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto.

Having joined Spurs in a £14.5 million deal from Metz last season, the 20-year-old returned to Ligue 1 on loan during the 2021/2022 campaign before linking up with his new club this summer.

Sarr, who made two appearances for Senegal at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, is yet to make his competitive debut for Spurs, with boss Antonio Conte preferring to utilize the experience of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma.

Nevertheless, the Italian admitted he was impressed by Sarr's second-half display during Wednesday night's 1-1 friendly draw against Nice. That could, potentially, go a long way to explain why a possible exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is now being blocked.

Moretto claims that La Liga outfit Sevilla hold an interest in bringing Sarr to Spain in the January transfer window and there has been "contact between all parties involved." Though, he notes that "to this day, Tottenham do not seem open to letting him [Sarr] go."

One player that could be set for a Spurs departure is Bryan Gil. Like Sarr, the Spaniard also impressed against Nice as he looks to repay the faith that saw the club spend more than £20 million on his services.

Despite making just one Premier League appearance under Conte this season, Moretto added that Gil is of "great interest" to clubs in his homeland. He, notably, mentions that the winger is "confirmed" to be among Valencia's targets, whilst "other teams will undoubtedly be in the race."

Spurs are expected to be actively monitoring the market for reinforcements throughout January, as Conte and Managing Director Fabio Paratici aim to build on a respectable first half of the campaign with continued squad investment.
