Tottenham Hotspur injury list ahead of Newcastle United clash with key defensive doubt

Tottenham Hotspur have one fresh injury concern ahead of this weekend’s clash against Newcastle United following Ben Davies’ withdrawal from the Wales squad. The star-studded Spurs squad is littered with internationals, with England captain Harry Kane the most prominent.

Eddie Howe’s side travel to North London carrying injury concerns of their own as Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson remain sidelined. Martin Dubravka and Fabian Schar are also doubts after they left their respective international camps early.

Victory against Antonio Conte’s Champions League hopefuls could lift Newcastle up to 12th in the table and would surely confirm their Premier League status for next season. ChronicleLive looks at who will likely be missing from the home side on Sunday…

Ben Davies -Quadricep

Davies returned to Spurs after feeling tightness in his quadricep and will not play against Czech Republic. The defender played the full game for Wales in their 2-1 victory over Austria but will play no part in Tuesday's friendly.

A brief statement from Wales read: “Following Thursday’s match, Ben Davies has returned to his club. All other players are available for Tuesday’s match.”

Ryan Sessegnon - Hamstring

The 21-year-old has missed Spurs’ last four matches after injuring his hamstring against Everton earlier this month. He is not expected to return against Newcastle.

Oliver Skipp - Pelvis

Conte originally expected Skipp to be in contention against the Magpies. Speaking after Spurs win against West Ham a fortnight ago, he said: "About Skippy, I hope to have him after the international break. His pain is getting better and better.”

However football.london reports that those claims were unrealistic and he will not feature at the weekend.

Japhet Tanganga - Knee

Spurs’ young defender will miss the rest of the season following knee surgery. A statement read: “Japhet Tanganga has undergone surgery on his right knee and will be out for the remainder of the season.

The England Under-21 international will undergo a period of recovery and is expected to return to training during the pre-season period.”
