Tottenham hit by double injury blow for Newcastle clash as Cristian Romero and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ruled out

Tottenham suffered two injury blows ahead of facing Newcastle on Sunday as both Cristian Romero and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were ruled out.

Antonio Conte named his starting XI on Sunday featuring a defensive three of Davinson Sanchez, Clement Lenglet and Eric Dier - with Romero and Hojbjerg missing from the squad entirely.

Conte says the pair will continue to be assessed “day-by-day” ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League game against Sporting.

Both problems are reportedly “minor” with Spurs fans no doubt eagerly awaiting an update from coach Conte on their fitness ahead of a busy lead-up to the World Cup.

Conte went for a 3-5-2 setup against Newcastle which featured Oliver Skipp alongside Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma as Hojbjerg was ruled out. Ivan Perisic was dropped to the bench in the other change.

Spurs host Sporting on Wednesday before a Premier League trip to Bournemouth next weekend.

Their Champions League group stage rounds off away to Marseille on November 1 before the visit of Liverpool five days later.
