Tottenham gunman jailed after shooting victim in leg outside north London supermarket

A Tottenham “dangerous offender” who shot a man in the leg in a fight outside a north London supermarket has been jailed.

Charles Ezbon, 33, of Park Lane, confessed to possessing a loaded firearm and grievous bodily harm in March and was sentenced last Friday to life with a minimum term of nine years.

Wood Green Crown Court heard how police were called to North Middlesex Hospital early on Christmas Eve last year to the 26-year-old victim’s gunshot wounds.

The victim’s condition was later found not to be life-threatening.

Detectives found that the man had been shot outside a supermarket on Tottenham’s Cedar Road at around 5am.

CCTV showed Ezbon shooting the victim after an altercation, and a manhunt was launched.

He was caught on January 8 after attempting to flee a friend’s home in Streatham’s Stanford Way.

Police said Ezbon was believed to have links to gangs, which was thought to be the motivation behind the shooting.

The victim declined to support police action, but officers linked Ezbon to the shooting through the CCTV and a shell casing left at the scene.

Met Detective Constable Rhiain John, who led the investigation said: “Charles is a dangerous offender with links to gangs, which is believed to be the motivation behind this incident.

“I’m pleased to see that the sentence given today means he will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”
