Tottenham look to face a fierce battle to coax either Marco Silva or Andoni Iraola to the club if they decide to part ways with Ange Postecoglou.
The under-fire Spurs boss has seen the constant pressure on his position ramp up significantly again in the aftermath of a wretched 4-2 defeat away at Wolves on Sunday - a 17th loss from 32 Premier League games this season that left them sitting 15th and only two points above their opponents.
The outcome of Thursday night’s massive Europa League quarter-final second-leg tie against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany could reportedly yet prove important in determining Postecoglou’s Tottenham future, with his side having drawn the first match 1-1 at home last week after Pedro Porro cancelled out Hugo Ekitike’s early opener and the hosts then found visiting goalkeeper Kaua Santos in inspired form.
Bournemouth’s highly-rated head coach Iraola and Fulham’s Silva have both been heavily linked with the Spurs job if they do move on from Postecoglou, with the likes of Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner and Brentford’s Thomas Frank among the other names mentioned in connection with the position so far.
However, initial reports on Tuesday that Iraola is “inclined” to remain at Bournemouth beyond the summer have been followed by the BBC stating that the Cherries’ American owner Bill Foley will fly to England this week with the intention of opening formal talks with the Spaniard over extending a contract that runs until the end of next season.
Tottenham would also potentially struggle to get Silva, also under contract until summer 2026, with vice-chairman Tony Khan having publicly stated that Fulham want to keep the Portuguese boss at Craven Cottage for the foreseeable future.
"Marco is a huge, huge asset to Fulham Football Club," he told BBC Radio London. "He is such an amazing person and he is so important to the football club.
"Marco has a great relationship with my father [Fulham owner Shad Khan] and myself, and we really love Marco and we want him to stay at Fulham Football Club forever. He is a huge part of what we have got going for the future and the present and he is a great man."
