Tottenham face nightmare scenario that could force Antonio Conte into tactical change vs Arsenal

It's Arsenal vs Tottenham in the first North London Derby of the 2022/23 Premier League season on Saturday. The two rivals did not face each other that long ago, with Spurs coming out on top at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of last season.

The victory for Spurs helped them on their way to winning a place in the Champions League this season, at the expense of Arsenal. This year, though, the Gunners have started like a train and proudly sit atop the Premier League table.

Tottenham are not far behind, sitting third, just one point adrift of their rivals and know victory will take them above the Gunners and into top spot on Saturday afternoon.

Head coach Antonio Conte will be waiting to see the state of his international players before kick-off on Saturday, with many playing around the world. Hugo Lloris pulled out of action with France due to a thigh injury, while Ben Davies remained at home with a knee problem.

But Conte has a potential nightmare scenario on his hands in defence, away from Davies' issues. With Davies at least, Clement Lenglet is available to play if the Welshman is not.

It is on the right hand side of the back three where Conte could have a problem and could be forced into a tactical rethink. Cristian Romero is the first choice, but was playing in the early hours of Wednesday morning in America as Argentina beat Jamaica 3-0 in a friendly.

His understudy would be Davinson Sanchez, but he too was in action in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday as Colombia beat Mexico 3-2. If neither are ready for the big North London Derby, it poses a serious question of Conte.

The Italian could name Japhet Tanganga in the back-line alongside Eric Dier and Davies, or he could switch to a 4-3-3 to match up Arsenal's three in the midfield. That would benefit Yves Bissouma, who has been looking for more action with Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg preferred in a two thus far.

Whatever happens it will be interesting to see the team lineup when it is announced at 11.30am on Saturday morning.
