Tottenham eye Sergio Reguilon replacement as Antonio Conte summer transfer mission continues

Tottenham are expected to have a very busy summer transfer window following the club securing a Champions League spot on the final day of last season.

Antonio Conte's impact at the Lilywhites has been significant, and there's a strong belief amongst the Spurs fanbase that if the Italian is allowed to sign players who are tailored to this style of play, the club could finish as high as third place next season.

The former Inter Milan manager's 3-4-3 baseline system is very well known, and immediately upon arrival, he utilised this shape and drilled the Spurs backline into playing a successful back five without the ball.

Whilst defensively Spurs looked far more assured under Conte and the front three consisting of Harry Kane, Son-Heung Min and Dejan Kulusevski all delivered stellar impacts, the quality from the wingbacks was far from consistent.

The signing of Ivan Perisic immediately suggests that Conte understands that strength in this department is needed, but perhaps he may look for a more defensive option on top of this acquisition, with Marca stating that Spurs are leading the race to sign Pervis Estupinan from Villarreal.

The 24-year-old joined the Yellow Submarine from Watford in September 2020 for a fee believed to be in the region of £15million and since arriving in Spain, he has racked up a total of 73 appearances, 10 of which have been in the Champions League.

According to transfermarkt, Estupinan is valued at £18 million but given the fact that his current contract runs out in 2027, one would expect that a fee above this would be needed to acquire his signature.
