Tottenham have been dealt a major injury blow after it was confirmed that first choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario faces a spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a broken ankle.
Guglielmo Vicario miraculously played 60 minutes for Tottenham in their 4-0 win over Manchester City at the weekend with a broken ankle, and now the Italy international faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery.
“We can confirm that Guglielmo Vicario has today (Monday 25 November) undergone surgery for a fracture of his right ankle,” a statement from Spurs read.
“The 28-year-old suffered the injury during Saturday’s Premier League victory at Manchester City.
“Guglielmo will be assessed by our medical staff to determine when he can return to training.”
Vicario, meanwhile, shared the news on his Instagram: “Sometimes football gives you its highs, and sometimes it challenges you in ways you don’t expect. I played 60 minutes at the Etihad with a broken bone in my ankle, giving absolutely everything I had for the team. Unfortunately there was no way around this one.. I needed surgery.
“I’m disappointed I won’t be able to help the team for a while.
“A massive thank you to the doctors and the staff. The operation went well, and from tomorrow I’ll be working hard to come back stronger, fitter, and ready to give my all for you again.”

Vicario Injury: What Does It Mean For Spurs?
Since signing from Empoli in 2023, Vicario hasn’t missed a single Premier League game for Spurs, keeping a total of 10 clean sheets across his 50 appearances in the English top-flight.
Tottenham haven’t put a timeframe on the 28-year-old’s return, however reports suggest that he’ll be confined to the sidelines for a while, which comes as a major blow amid a busy fixture period.
The North London club have 10 matches across all competitions between now and the new year, including crucial clashes against Roma, Chelsea, Rangers, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Fraser Forster, who has made three appearances in cup competitions this term, will likely deputise in Vicario’s absence, while former United States youth international Brandon Austin and 26-year-old Alfie Whiteman are also options.
Spurs are back in action against Roma in the Europa League on Thursday evening, with the UK’s best football betting sites favouring Ange Postecoglou’s side to claim all three points against their Serie A counterparts.
