Tottenham dealt big Pedro Porro transfer blow as Man City clause emerges amid Joao Cancelo loan

Tottenham's hopes of signing Pedro Porro have been dealt another massive blow just one day before the transfer window closes. Not only have talks between the club and Sporting Lisbon had a major U-turn, with Porro's arranged medical at Hotspur Way cancelled, he could be on his way elsewhere.

The news of his deal collapsing at the final minute is a bitter blow for fans that were hopeful of seeing one of Europe's top right wingbacks join this month for around 45m euros (£39.5m). Porro had gone as far as saying goodbye to his fans after appearing against Porto on Saturday night.

Things have changed though with the Portuguese side appearing to shift the goalposts late on. Porro is now subject to rumours of a potential move elsewhere in England.

It was revealed on Monday that perhaps the biggest shock deal of the entire window was about to happen with Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo close to joining Bayern Munich on loan. Cancelo was one of the best players in the division last season but has struggled for form this year.

According to the Athletic the 28-year-old will join the German champions until the end of the season due to an uncertain future for Benjamin Pavard and injuries affecting Noussair Mazraoui. The deal could also include an option to buy.

For Spurs, this comes with a sickening blow because Porro used to play for City and it was reported earlier this year that they even have a buy-back option in his contract. With one fullback heading out it is only natural to think that another could be on their way in.

Porro only left permanently in the summer but could be set for an immediate return, one that would hurt Spurs fans after they came so close to signing.

His future is not yet finalised though and football.london understands the club are trying to salvage the deal still.
