Tottenham confirm Yves Bissouma will undergo ankle surgery in second major injury blow after Hugo Lloris news

Yves Bissouma is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after it was confirmed he will undergo ankle surgery on Friday.

It’s another major blow for Tottenham, coming after Hugo Lloris was ruled out for at least six weeks with a knee injury.

Bissouma has made eight Premier League starts so far this season, despite being behind Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the midfield pecking order.

A tweet from Spurs read: “We can confirm that Yves Bissouma is to undergo surgery on Friday to repair a stress fracture to his left ankle.

“A timeframe for his return will be determined after surgery. He will begin rehabilitation with our medical staff as soon as possible. Get well soon, Yves.”

Antonio Conte will be incredibly frustrated to lose Bissouma, ahead of a crucial run of fixtures. Tottenham travel to face AC Milan next week in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash, with derbies against Chelsea and West Ham and an FA Cup match against Sheffield United in between those two games.

Spurs captain Lloris suffered ligament damage to his knee during the win over Manchester City, and while he was able to finish that game, tests since have revealed he faces up to two months out.

Fraser Forster will deputise in his absence, while Oliver Skipp will likely find himself more involved while Bissouma is out.
