Tottenham confirm transfer exit as midfielder seals season-long loan move

Giovani Lo Celso has officially completed his loan move to Villarreal for the 2022/23 campaign. Finding opportunities hard to come by in the Tottenham team in Antonio Conte's first few months in charge, the Argentina international linked up with the Yellow Submarines on the final day of the January transfer window.

His loan spell with Unai Emery's side was a huge success, notably helping his new side to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Tipped to re-sign for the Spanish club this summer, the 26-year-old has now returned to Estadio de la Ceramica for the duration of the new campaign.

Lo Celso had returned to Hotspur Way in the summer but it was made clear to him that he would not be part of Conte's plans going forward. Along with Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks, the quartet missed out on the club's South Korea pre-season tour and also didn't feature in the Rangers and Roma games.

Re-signing for Villarreal on loan, Tottenham will be hoping that the player enjoys another successful season in Spain as they look to move him on permanently. football.london understands that Lo Celso's deal contains a break clause for Spurs in January to end the loan if they receive a bid from someone in that window and the player agrees to the move.

Now a Villarreal player once again, Lo Celso will have the chance to play regularly ahead of Argentina's World Cup campaign. The midfielder registered one goal and one assist in his 21 appearances for the Spanish side last term.
