Tottenham have confirmed that both Cristian Romero and Oliver Skipp will wear new shirt numbers for the 2022/23 Premier League season. The news comes ahead of the team departing for the club's pre-season tour of South Korea, with Spurs' first match coming on Wednesday against Team K League.
Joining the club from Atalanta last summer, Romero inherited the No.4 jersey that was Toby Alderweireld's prior to his move to Qatar side Al-Duhail. However, the Argentina international has changed ahead of the new campaign and will now wear No.17, which has been vacant since Moussa Sissoko's exit last August.
Perhaps a shock for some fans to see Romero switch from No.4, the centre-back has an affinity with No.17 having worn it for Club Atletico Belgrano, Genoa and Atalanta during his career so far. He doesn't wear the number on international duty for Argentina, however, instead wearing No.13.

Romero's old shirt number hasn't been left empty for long, with Skipp immediately taking on No.4 after a stunning breakthrough season in the Premier League. Firstly wearing No.52 for Tottenham before swapping for No.29, Skipp's new shirt number highlights just how far he has come in such a short space of time.
The only new shirt number that has been confirmed ahead of the new season is Richarlison, with the Brazilian set to wear No.9 after his big-money move from Everton. Squad numbers have yet to be confirmed for fellow new signings Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Clement Lenglet, as well as 2021 summer arrival Pape Matar Sarr, but their numbers could become clear over the coming days with two pre-season friendlies in South Korea on the agenda.
Tottenham have yet to publish a full list of their squad numbers for the 2022/23 campaign, something they have tended to do in the days leading up to the start of the season in previous years.
