Tottenham confirm Sporting CP clash is ON after ‘error’ on website claimed game was postponed

Tottenham were forced to apologise after their website wrongly posted that Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Sporting CP had been postponed.

After the weekend’s Premier League matches were cancelled in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, fans have been eager for news on the coming week’s games in domestic and European competition.

On Sunday, Spurs appeared to confirm their clash with Sporting in the Portuguese capital in Lisbon had been called off - an announcement they corrected and put down to a “technical error”.

A statement read: “Due to a technical error, Tuesday’s match against Sporting CP is displaying as postponed on our website.

“We can confirm this is incorrect - the match is going ahead as planned. We are looking into the issue urgently and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“The technical issue on our website is now fixed. We thank our fans for their patience on this matter.”

Elsewhere, the Met Police have given assurances to Arsenal that their Europa League meeting with PSV Eindhoven on Thursday will go ahead. The National League will also return to action next weekend amid fears over policing availability in the days leading up to the Queen’s funeral.
