Tottenham confirm Ryan Mason’s coaching team for Manchester United fixture

Tottenham have confirmed Ryan Mason’s backroom staff ahead of the club’s Premier League clash with Manchester United on Thursday.

Spurs announced that former interim boss Cristian Stellini had been sacked following Sunday’s 6-1 loss to Newcastle, in which they conceded five goals in 21 minutes. Ryan Mason was announced as the new caretaker manager in what is his second stint in the position.

He took charge of seven games upon the sacking of Jose Mourinho in 2021, overseeing the 1-0 League Cup final defeat to Manchester City in his second match. Thursday will be the first time he takes on United as a manager.

Ahead of the fixture, Tottenham have confirmed which members of staff will be in the dugout next to Mason after Stellini’s coaching staff left upon his exit.

Matt Wells comes into the assistant manager role for the time being while academy coach Nigel Gibbs is named as acting first-team coach. Goalkeeper coach Perry Suckling and set-piece coach Gianni Vio stay in their roles.

The Tottenham squad released a statement on Tuesday stating that they will reimburse the tickets of visiting fans who made the journey to St James’ Park. It read: “As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. Sunday wasn't good enough.

“We know words aren't enough in situations like this but believe us, a defeat like this hurts. We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James' Park.”

United will face top summer target Harry Kane in Thursday’s clash. The striker’s future is unclear with less than 12 months left on his current deal and Tottenham facing the prospect of no Champions League football next season.
