Tottenham have confirmed Micky van de Ven as their fifth summer signing, arriving from Wolfsburg in a deal worth around £43million.
The young centre-back was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday to watch Spurs beat Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 in a friendly, and has now joined on a five-year deal. He will wear the number 37 shirt.
Spurs have been in the market for a new centre-back for some time and the Netherland Under-21 international over the last week became the leading target. Manager Ange Postecoglou has long been an admirer and explored signing Van de Ven while in charge at Celtic.
Postecoglou hopes Van de Ven is not the only new defender to arrive this week, telling reporters on Sunday: "There's no doubt we need some bolstering in that area.
“We're looking for players that can play the kind of football we want. Hopefully, we'll get one or two done in the next couple of days to bolster us in that area."
Spurs are also set to announce the signing of highly-rated forward Alejo Veliz for around £13m with Rosario Central.
