Tottenham have confirmed Rodrigo Bentancur has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury.
A short statement on social media read: "We can confirm that Rodrigo Bentancur has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be out of action for the remainder of the campaign.
"He will undergo surgery before beginning his rehabilitation with our medical staff.
"We're all behind you, Rodrigo."
As reported by Standard Sport on Sunday evening, the Urguayuan faces at least six months out and will now work to being fit for the start of next season the middle of August.
Bentancur's injury came just days after fellow midfielder Yves Bissouma suffered an ankle injury which required surgery and captain Hugo Lloris was ruled out for five to seven weeks with a knee injury of his own.
Spurs today fly to Italy to face AC Milan in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.
