Tottenham believe they are close to agreeing a deal to sign Dominic Solanke, who would become Bournemouth’s club-record sale.
The one-time England striker is understood to be keen on the move, with personal terms having been agreed without any hitches.
It is now down to Spurs to wrap up a deal, with Solanke having emerged in recent days as their preferred candidate as they search for a new striker to lead their line this season.
Solanke’s current deal at Bournemouth, which expires in 2029, has a release clause worth £65million. If Spurs paid that much for him, he would become their record signing.
Last season was the best of Solanke’s career, the 26-year-old netting 19 Premier League goals for the Cherries. His previous highest goals tally in the top flight was six the previous season.
Spurs have not adequately replaced Harry Kane since his £86m move to Bayern Munich last summer, with Heung-min Son and Richarlison sharing the brunt of the load as the club’s lone striker during Ange Postecoglou’s first campaign in charge.
Standard Sport understands that West Ham enquired about Solanke’s availability last summer, but were told he would cost £40m to prise away, rather than the £30m the Hammers were willing to part with.
Speaking during Spurs’ pre-season tour, Postecoglou said: “What’s important is the type of striker we get. You know we play a certain way. We demand certain things from a physical perspective, from the technical aspects of it, that it’s going be a striker that fits that mould.
“It’s still the area of the park [where] we’re really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that’s a focus for us.”
Liverpool, who Solanke left to join Bournemouth in 2019, retain a 20 per cent sell-on clause in his current contract.
Solanke was considered for England’s Euro 2024 squad, but then-manager Gareth Southgate instead opted to pick Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Brentford’s Ivan Toney as deputies to Kane.
