Tottenham complete first transfer deadline day deal as Lyon make Tanguy Ndombele announcement

Tanguy Ndombele has departed Tottenham and rejoined Lyon on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

The French club have confirmed on their official website that they have paid £1.18million to take the player on loan, with the club then having the option to purchase him in the summer.

Joining Spurs from the Ligue 1 side in the summer of 2019, the talented midfielder showed his quality in spells but never produced his best on a consistent basis to become a real gamechanger for the club.

In and out of the team at the start of the season under Nuno Espirito Santo, game time has been limited for the player since Antonio Conte's arrival at the club in November.

Playing in three Premier League games for the Italian, Ndombele's last Tottenham appearance came at the start of January as he played 69 minutes in their late 3-1 FA Cup win over League One side Morecambe.

The player's slow exit from the pitch didn't go down well with fans and it culminated with him training away from the rest of the first-team squad at Tottenham prior to his return to France.

Always expected to depart Tottenham in January due to his lack of first-team action under the new boss, Ndombele was heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain but has instead returned to Lyon with a move to the French capital not coming to fruition.

Ndombele's exit will not be the only one happening at the club today as Dele Alli looks set to head to Everton on a permanent basis and Giovani Lo Celso also appears to be heading out of the door on loan.

Although Tottenham have yet to confirm any new signings this month, Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur and attacker Dejan Kulusevski are set to sign on the dotted line.

Ndombele could make his second debut for Lyon on Saturday when they travel to Monaco in the league.
