Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy delivers update after Antonio Conte departure

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has spoken after manager Antonio Conte left Spurs by mutual consent. The Italian took charge of Spurs in November 2021 and was able to achieve a Champions League finish with Spurs in the 2021/22 season. The Lilywhites have struggled this season at points, but are currently residing in fourth place.

Conte has endured a challenging year off the pitch, losing close friends Gian Piero Ventrone and Gianluca Vialli. The 53-year-old also underwent emergency gall bladder surgery in February.

Club chairman Daniel Levy said: "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters."

Tottenham also added: "Cristian Stellini will take the team as acting head-coach for the remainder of the season, along with Ryan Mason as assistant head-coach."

Conte's future at the club was thrown into question after Spurs' Champions League exit to AC Milan. With pressure rife, Spurs were able to beat Nottingham Forest, but saw a two-goal lead dissipate against Southampton the following weekend.

Following the draw, Conte unleashed a brutal rant on a number of topics associated with the club, saying: "They are used to it here, they are used to it. They don't play for something important yeah? They don't want to play under pressure, they don't want to play under stress. It is easy in this way. Tottenham's story is this. 20 years there is the owner and they never won something but why?

"The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stay here? I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench. You risk to disrupt the figure of the manager and to protect the other situation in every moment.

"Until now I try to hide the situation but now no because I don't want to see what I have seen today because this is unacceptable and also unacceptable for the fans. They follow us, pay for the ticket and to see the team another time to have this type of performance is unacceptable. We have to think a lot about this."

Conte leaves the club with Tottenham in fourth, two points clear of fifth-placed Newcastle. Spurs have ten games remaining in the Premier League with a clash against Everton at Goodison Park to come next a week from Monday.

In terms of replacements, recently departed Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is high up on the list of options to succeed him at the club. Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked with a sensational return, while Luis Enrique has also been named as a potential successor.
