Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has given a major injury update as he has ruled out two key players until the new year.
The under-pressure Spurs manager was speaking ahead of tomorrow’s Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Manchester United.
Not only will they miss the clash with the Red Devils, but they will miss Premier League matches against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
There is still no certainty they would be back in time for the January 4 clash against Newcastle.
Postecoglou is determined to win silverware in his second season at Tottenham. The absences of two key players will not help in their quest to reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Tottenham Injury Update: Romero and Van De Ven Out Until The New Year
Bemoaning the club’s injury crisis, Tottenham boss Postecoglou in his update to the media said: “(Micky) Van de Ven and (Cristian) Romero are still chugging along. I think both will be in the new year.
“Not as significant injury as last time with Micky but obviously having a setback the medical team is going to make sure he is right to go. So both of them in the new year at some point.”
The injury update comes after both Van de Ven and Romero hobbled off in Tottenham’s 4-3 loss to Chelsea on December 8.
Romero left the pitch early in what was his first appearance in 35 days from another injury. Van de Ven had not played since October 30 and he limped straight down the tunnel not long after his team-mate.
In their absence, 18-year-old Archie Gray has impressed. Radu Dragusin has also been handed more minutes than would have been expected.
Tottenham have another defensive doubt for the visit of Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United side on Thursday. Postecoglou revealed that a late assessment is to be made on Destiny Udogie’s fitness.
Postecoglou Provides Update On Three Other Spurs Stars
Ange Postecoglou in his injury update confirmed that youngster Mikey Moore and Ben Davies should be back for Tottenham next week.
Though they would miss the games with Manchester United and Liverpool, there will be a chance they could feature over the Christmas period.
The Australian also confirmed that Richarlison could be back in the opening week of 2025.
He said: “Mikey is back in training so hopefully not too far away. The next cabs off the rank are Mikey and Ben Davies potentially next week and then Richarlison maybe first week of the new year.”
Tottenham will be hoping to build off their 5-0 victory over Southampton when they meet Manchester United on Thursday.
Before then they had failed to win any of their five previous games in all competitions.
