Tottenham announce retained list as Ange Postecoglou makes Arnaut Danjuma and Clement Lenglet call

Tottenham have announced their retained list for the new season with 12 players leaving the club for free. Including academy prospects and scholars, Spurs have made the decision not to renew the deals heading into the 2023/24 campaign.

Ange Postecoglou was announced as the new head coach earlier this month and has also found out who the club will be playing in their opening match of his tenure but the Australian will be without loan pair Clement Lenglet and Arnaut Danjuma. Both players will be on their way back to their parent clubs.

Danjuma, who joined in January on a short-term loan deal from Villarreal, started well, scoring on his debut in the FA Cup against Preston. He added another as a second half substitute against Bournemouth in April. The 26-year-old played 12 times for the club under three different managers.

There was an option to purchase Danjuma for around £35million in his loan deal but the club have now confirmed that they will not be taking that step.

Lenglet, who football.london understand are still considering a bid for this summer, was one of Antonio Conte's summer recruits in 2022 and had a mixed time in north London. After joining from Barcelona for the full season he played 26 times in the league. His loan was always due to end at this stage as no option to buy was included, but that may yet change as the summer goes on.

Elsewhere Lucas Moura also left the club after five and a half years in north London. Having joined from PSG he went on to play 221 times, scoring 39 times including a hat-trick in the 2019 Champions League semi-final against Ajax, cementing himself as a fan favourite.

Lucas also scored in his last game with a memorable and mazy run through the Leeds defence to cap off a victory at Elland Road to the delight of the travelling fans.

The club wrote in a statement: "We thank all three players for their service and wish them well for the future."

Spurs also confirmed the departure of development squad players: Jamie Bowden, Kallum Cesay, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Roshaun Mathurin, Marqes Muir and Romaine Mundle.

Under-18 scholars Thomas Bloxham, Brandon Bryan-Waugh and Riley Owen have all reached the end of their time at the club as well. It follows a week in which Alfie Dorrington, Max Robson and Archie Chaplin all signed on to longer deals.

Postecoglou now has two months to prepare his squad for the opening day of the league season with much transfer work to be done including finalising the future of Harry Kane as well as looking to bring in new recruits across the pitch.
