Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou offers injury update on Cristian Romero and Ben Davies ahead of Chelsea clash

Ange Postecoglou has suggested a late decision will be made on Cristian Romero’s fitness ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

The centre-back has been out since mid-November with a toe injury but is pushing to return and provide a much-needed boost for Spurs.

Postecoglou’s side remain without Micky van de Ven, while Ben Davies limped off against Bournemouth on Thursday night to leave Radu Dragusin as the only fit senior centre-back at the club.

Speaking on Friday morning, Postecoglou provided an update on Romero’s chances of featuring against Chelsea.

“Cuti is due to train, we're not doing much today but we'll see how he goes tomorrow,” he said.

On Davies, Postecoglou added: "Ben, too early again mate, he'll go for a scan today, we're talking 10 hours after last night's game, so we'll find out more.”

Should Romero not return in time to face the Blues, Archie Gray will likely fill in at centre-back, as he did for the final 30 minutes in the defeat to Bournemouth.

Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert and Mikey Moore are among those who remain unavailable.

Spurs were beaten 1-0 by the Cherries after a poor performance at the Vitality Stadium, in which they were fortunate to not concede more than once.

They sit 10th in the Premier League table, with just one win in their past six matches in all competitions, though that was a 4-0 win away to Manchester City.

It is a tough run leading up to Christmas for Spurs, who travel to face Rangers in the Europa League in midweek and take on Manchester United and Liverpool in the next couple of weeks.
