Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou hints at Cristian Romero injury boost and explains Archie Gray substitution

Ange Postecoglou has handed Tottenham a boost by revealing that Cristian Romero could be available for Thursday’s match against Bournemouth.

The Argentine centre-back has been out with a toe injury since the middle of November, with Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin once again deputising for Romero and fellow injury absentee Micky van de Ven in Sunday’s 1-1 home draw with 10-man Fulham.

Postecoglou revealed after the match that Romero has still not resumed training but is not “too far away” from returning to action.

Asked whether he might return for the clash at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday, Postecoglou replied: “Potentially.

“He still hasn't trained with the team. He's getting closer, but he still hasn't trained with the team.

“Him and Micky are still working with sport science staff. So, hopefully, not too far away.”

Spurs were dealt a minor injury blow towards the end of the Fulham match. Archie Gray came on in the 86th minute but was then forced off in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Explaining why the teenager was withdrawn, Postecoglou said: “He got a knock, a bit of a dead leg, so hopefully nothing too significant.”

He said of his team’s performance against Fulham: “Tough game. Tight game. Not a lot of openings for either side. Just a few opportunities to score.

“We were playing tough opposition, and it is not always going to go smoothly for you.”
