Tottenham and Leeds have scouted Bristol City’s £10million-rated starlet Alex Scott with a view to a summer raid.
Teenage Scott, 18, has made a name for himself at Ashton Gate this term making 36 appearances. Scouts from Spurs and Leeds were at Bristol’s win on Good Friday at Stoke to see him in action.
The versatile youngster has been playing wing-back recently but is meant to be best playing as a creative midfielder or No.10. He has four goals and two assists this term and also gets stuck in after collecting 10 cautions. Bristol rated him at £10m after his impressive breakthrough campaign.
Scott is under contract until 2025 but top-flight suitors have a chance to prise him away this summer as City wrestle to comply with EFL profit and sustainability rules. Scott joined the Robins from Guernsey FC at 17 years old, after a successful trial period. He had previously made his senior debut for Guernsey in August 2019 to become the Green Lions’ youngest ever player at the age of 16.
He has since progressed through Bristol’s under-18s and under-23s and signed a professional contract in March 2020. In August 2021 - a day after his 18th birthday - Scott penned a new four-year deal at Ashton Gate. But Robins boss Nigel Pearson has a limited transfer budget this summer and is likely to wheel and deal to attempt to build a push to go up next term. It has opened the door for a potential sale of Scott to generate funds to help City mount a potential promotion bid.
But in the meantime Pearson is focused on finishing the season strongly with his side in action at relegated Derby on Saturday. The former Rams boss assessed: “Last weekend was very disappointing to confirm their relegation but I think they have been excellent this season in terms of how the players and staff have dealt with their own predicament. You never know how a situation like that will impact the response from them so it will be a tough game. The game we won at our place was very tight.”
