Tottenham and Arsenal fight for fourth spot as supercomputer predicts final Premier League table

Tottenham will beat north London rivals Arsenal to fourth spot according to a supercomputer that has predicted the outcome of the final Premier League table. Spurs moved above Mikel Arteta’s side on goal-difference after their 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle on Sunday, and the Gunners failed to reclaim fourth place after losing 3-0 to Crystal Palace the following day.

Arsenal do have a game in hand but appear to have the more difficult run-in, with Chelsea, West Ham and Manchester United still to come, as well as a trip to Spurs. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte’s side have a far kinder run of fixtures -on paper at least - with a trip to Liverpool on May 7 the only obvious daunting prospect.

The forecast also predicted that Manchester City will retain the Premier League title, with Liverpool in second place and Chelsea in third. Meanwhile, Manchester United have been predicted to finish sixth and West Ham in seventh.

Burnley, Watford and Norwich have been tipped to be three sides relegated to the Championship. The forecasted table comes via sportsbook SBK’s supercomputer, an algorithm that has analysed informative betting markets.

An SBK spokesperson said: “Tottenham are now odds-on to take fourth spot ahead of rivals Arsenal and Manchester United after their 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle. In the title race, Manchester City still lead the way, but the supercomputer is predicting a far tighter finish at the top than many expected.

“At the other end of the table, Norwich and Watford are doomed, while Burnley are expected to drop into the Championship with them.”
