Tottenham 2022/23 Premier League finishing position predicted with confirmed fixtures

Tottenham's fixtures for the 2022/23 Premier League season were released today, with Southampton, Chelsea and Wolves their first three opponents of the season.

A late flurry of impressive performances last season saw Spurs leapfrog Arsenal in the Premier League table and grab fourth place, earning themselves a UEFA Champions League spot. Since then, Antonio Conte's side have signed Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster on free transfers whilst a deal for Yves Bissouma is close as they strengthen their squad for next season.

The Premier League announced the official fixtures for next season at 9:00 AM BST on Thursday, June 16, 2022, and Spurs have a mixed start to the season on paper. Conte's first clash with rivals Arsenal will be on October 1, whilst their first face-off against Chelsea will be on 13 August.

To complete this simulation, we used Football Manager 2022 and updated the game with the latest teams, transfers, and most importantly, the updated fixtures for the 2022/23 season. Let's see how Spurs played in some of their games next season.

Spurs were shocked at home in their opening game of the season, losing 2-1 to Southampton. Rodrigo Bentancur got on the scoresheet for Spurs, but the Saints were able to find the winner in the first half and hold out for three points away from home.

Spurs never won by any major margins in the 2022/23 season, with their biggest scoreline being 3-0, happening on five occasions during the season. Goals from Perisic, Harry Kane and Lucas Moura handed Conte a 3-0 win over Everton, with the other wins coming against Brentford, Fulham, West Ham United and Leeds.

Biggest shock: Brentford 1-0 Spurs (Monday, December 26, 2022)

Spurs suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to struggling Brentford (Football Manager 2022)

In the 2022/23 simulation, Brentford were in the bottom three at Christmas and really struggling. They entered the game against Spurs on a five-game losing streak, but they managed to snatch an important victory against Conte's side.

In the first game after the conclusion of the World Cup, Spurs struggled against Brentford, with most of the Bees players staying put during the World Cup period compared to Spurs. Bryan Mbuemo scored the only goal of the game to shock Spurs.

Derby days: Spurs vs Arsenal

Spurs won one and drew one against Arsenal in the 2022/23 season (Football Manager 2022)

Spurs were unable to find a win against north London rivals Arsenal in the simulation, losing one and drawing one against the Gunners. The point came at the Emirates, where two goals from Moura claimed a point in early October.

The reverse fixture was in January, and the Gunners managed to win 2-1 on Spurs' soil to claim the bragging rights for the season. Takehiro Tomiyasu scored a late winner to secure three points.

Final game: Leeds United 2-3 Spurs (Sunday, May 28, 2023)

Spurs beat Leeds in the final game of the season (Football Manager 2022)

Spurs played out an entertaining final game of the season in a five-goal thriller against Leeds. Two goals from Kane and another from Moura secured a 3-2 win for Spurs.

So, after 38 league games, how did Spurs do in the Premier League? Could Spurs challenge for the Premier League title, or would it be another top-four battle for Conte's side?

2022/23 Premier League final standings

Spurs finished third in the Premier League (Football Manager 2022)

At the end of the season, Spurs clinched third place in the Premier League, moving one space higher than the season just gone. Conte's side managed 81 points, 10 more points than last season in an impressive league campaign.

Overall, according to Football Manager 2022's Premier League simulation for the 2022/23 campaign, Spurs could improve on last season and comfortably earn themselves a spot in the top four. Liverpool and City still proved too much to handle, with both sides in a two-horse race for the title and leaving Spurs behind.
