A toddler who was attacked by several dogs has been moved to a hospital for specialist treatment where he fights for his life.
The child, aged two, was left critically injured in the incident, which occurred just after 11am on March 28.
Police said that the boy was in a "critical but stable condition" and had been moved from Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester to Birmingham Children's Hospital last night, Birmingham Live writes.
An officer also confirmed that three dogs had been removed from the property where the attack took place in Egdon, but have not released information on what type dogs they were.
The dogs are said to have been "secured and are no further risk to the public".
They were also described yesterday as not believed to be breeds banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 .
The boy's relatives began to transport him to hospital themselves from the remote countryside area where they live, but were told to stop and meet paramedics at Worcester Countryside Centre instead, on the advice of West Midlands Ambulance Service.
The toddler was then transported from there to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance. West Midlands Ambulance Service said "staff worked quickly to administer advanced trauma care to the patient at the scene and continued with treatment en-route to hospital”.
The full West Mercia Police statement today says: "Police were called by the ambulance service shortly before 11.20am yesterday following a report of a two-year-old child injured by dogs. After receiving initial treatment at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, the child was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital yesterday evening. He is in a critical but stable condition.
"We can confirm that three dogs have been removed from the property in Egdon and have been secured, therefore there is no further risk to the public. South Worcestershire local policing commander, Superintendent Rebecca Love, said: “This is a truly upsetting incident for all individuals who have been involved, and our thoughts remain with the child and his family at this difficult time.
"Incidents of this nature are rare in our area but we do understand how distressing they can be for the local community. A thorough investigation is underway and we will share any relevant updates in due course.”
This latest dog attack in Worcestershire is the second within days in the Midlands that has left children in a critical condition in hospital. The two separate dog attacks were not connected.
The first incident left an eight-year-old boy with serious facial injuries when he was bitten by a dog in Cannock at 12.40pm on Saturday (March 26). A six-year-old girl and woman were also hurt in the dog attack in Brook Vale.
