Tory MP in bizarre rant as he blasts BBC for making Boris Johnson 'look like Hannibal Lecter'

A Tory MP took aim at the BBC following the confidence vote in Boris Johnson last night accusing them of making the Prime Minister "look like Hannibal Lecter".

Adam Holloway, MP for Gravesham since 2005, appeared on Newsnight on Monday evening after the PM won his vote narrowly.

Tory MPs voted by 211 to 148 in support of Johnson as part of a confidence vote which has left him wounded.

When Theresa May faced a confidence vote in 2018 she secured the support of 63% of her MPs but was still forced out within six months.

Johnson saw 41% of his MPs vote against him, a worse result than May.

Holloway claimed Newsnight was biased and blamed the programme for the mess Johnson got himself in.

He said: "There is great damage to the reputation of politics and it should also do damage to organisations like the BBC.

"This programme I am on now were showing pictures of him looking like Hannibal Lecter at the beginning."

Presenter Mark Urban replied: "Oh, come on."

Holloway then produced an image of the Prime Minister on his iPad, saying: "Okay, I can show you here. Look at that! He's got razor blades.

"I mean, does that guy look like someone who has, you know, been given a birthday cake or someone who, you know, has been locked up for something at the Old Bailey?

"I mean, this thing has been blown totally out of proportion and actually we should be thanking this man."

Hannibal Lecter was the fictional serial killer and cannibal brought to life by Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs and other films.
