A man has been charged with torture, assaulting police and other offences after a stand-off inside a Brisbane home.

The 25-year-old was allegedly barricaded inside a bathroom with a woman in Sunnybank Hills residence for more than four hours on Friday afternoon.

Nearby roads were shut down and residents told to stay indoors as specialist police and negotiators responded to the incident.

The man has been charged with one count of torture, deprivation of liberty, contravening a domestic violence order and three counts of serious assault to police.

He is set to face court on Monday.

The woman was taken to hospital for observation.
